U.S. Huntsville Land Office - register of rejected private land claims, 1887-1897.

This volume provides an alphabetical listing of private land claims which were rejected for various reasons. Each entry includes the name of the applicant, the date of rejection, the location of the tract, the kind of entry and the cause of rejection. The reasons given are quite varied, including land not vacant, railroad land, owns more than 160 acres, classed mineral, deserted wife, no money or prior application. These records illustrate the complexities of choosing land for settlement and meeting the necessary qualifications.
